Radiant floor heat wires heat up at a constant wattage (ours are 15 watts per square foot), meaning they will constantly send the thermal energy into the floor and the heat should constantly build up as long as they have power to them.

The main thing that stops radiant floor heat from getting warmer is a setting in the thermostat limiting temperature through the floor sensor.

Another possible cause is heat loss occurring somewhere either from under the floor or from the space not being sufficiently insulated.

First, I’d check to make sure the thermostat isn’t stopping the flow of power because of a setting. The manual will explain how to change the limits on the heat sensors. I have some customers who prefer to use just the room temperature which works better for them. They just want the system to keep heating and don’t care to monitor the radiant floor heat temperature.

Then, if it’s still not getting warm enough, have an electrician completely bypass the the thermostat and wire the system in directly. This way the power can’t be interrupted and it will either continue to warm or you’ll know it is a heat loss issue.

So, that little bit of saved coverage area can save you in the long run, especially if you are talking about particularly large rooms.

Take advantage of our expertise in floor heating whenever you can! For instance, once you are ready to wire up your thermostat sensors, it isn't necessary that the floor sensor from the thermostat reach or touch the mat. They just need they to go on the floor near the mat to get an accurate reading. These are low voltage wires and they just need to reach out and touch the floor to get a floor temperature reading.
